XAU/USD Across Timeframes
What XAU/USD means
XAU is the ISO 4217 code for one troy ounce of gold, so XAU/USD is simply the number of US dollars one ounce of gold costs. It is quoted on the global over-the-counter market rather than on a single exchange, which is why it is called the spot price — the price for immediate settlement, as opposed to a futures contract with a delivery month attached.
Where the price comes from
The chart above streams OANDA's XAU/USD feed through an official TradingView widget — the same data you would see on tradingview.com, with no account required. Different brokers quote XAU/USD a few cents apart because each aggregates its own pool of bullion-bank liquidity; the differences are small relative to the daily range.
When XAU/USD moves most
Spot gold trades from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon US Eastern time. The widest ranges cluster around the London opening and the New York session, especially on US CPI, payrolls and FOMC days. The gold 1 minute chart shows that intraday behaviour in detail.
How to Read the XAU/USD Chart
Change the symbol or timeframe
Every chart on this page is fully interactive. Use the timeframe buttons in the top toolbar to move from 1 minute to monthly candles, and the symbol box to switch to XAU/EUR, XAU/GBP, XAG/USD or any other instrument. Nothing is locked behind a login.
Add indicators
The indicator menu in the chart toolbar carries the full TradingView library — moving averages, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands and volume profile all work on the XAU/USD feed. Our guide to reading a gold price chart walks through which ones actually earn their place on a gold chart.
Compare against the dollar
Gold's clearest short-term relationship is the inverse one with the US dollar and with real yields. The DXY chart above sits next to XAU/USD for exactly that reason — when the dollar index breaks out, gold usually does the opposite.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same XAU/USD chart as TradingView?
Yes — the charts on this page are official TradingView widgets streaming the same XAU/USD feed as tradingview.com. You can change the symbol, switch timeframes from one minute to all-time and add indicators directly in the chart, with no TradingView account or sign-up required. The XAU/USD TradingView chart page covers which symbol to use for gold and how to set the chart up.
What is the difference between XAU/USD and the gold futures price?
XAU/USD is the spot price for immediate settlement on the over-the-counter market. Gold futures (COMEX GC) are contracts for delivery in a specific month, so they trade at a small premium to spot that reflects storage and financing costs. The two track each other closely; the gap is the basis.
What are XAU/USD trading hours?
Spot gold trades nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week — from roughly 6pm US Eastern on Sunday to 5pm Eastern on Friday, with a short daily settlement break. Liquidity rotates through the Asian, London and New York sessions.
Why does my broker show a slightly different XAU/USD price?
Because spot gold has no single exchange. Each broker aggregates quotes from its own set of bullion banks and adds a spread, so prices differ by a few cents. For charting and analysis the difference is immaterial; for execution it is worth comparing spreads.
Can I see XAU/USD in euros, pounds or other currencies?
Yes. Type XAUEUR, XAUGBP, XAUJPY or another pair into the symbol box on any chart above, or open the multi-currency gold section which shows gold in EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD and CHF side by side.
