Why Track Gold?

Gold serves as a hedge against currency debasement and shifts in real interest rates more than against headline inflation. The gold and inflation piece explains the actual mechanism, and the central-bank demand article covers the structural side.

Gold/Silver Ratio

The gold/silver ratio indicates how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. Historically averaging around 60, extremes can signal potential rebalancing opportunities between the two metals — see the ratio trading guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same gold chart as TradingView?

Yes — every chart on this page is an official TradingView widget streaming the same live data you would see on tradingview.com. You can change the symbol, switch timeframes from one minute to all-time, and add indicators directly in the chart, with no TradingView account or sign-up required. The gold TradingView chart page goes further: which symbol to use for gold, how to set the chart up, and the full advanced chart on one screen.

What is the gold spot price (XAU/USD)?

XAU/USD is the price of one troy ounce of gold in US dollars on the global over-the-counter market. It is the benchmark "spot" price that dealers, ETFs and futures contracts reference. The main chart above streams it live during market hours; the gold spot price page shows it per ounce, per gram and per kilo and explains how the LBMA benchmark is set, and the XAU/USD chart page covers the symbol in full — spot versus futures, trading hours and why brokers quote it differently.

What hours does the gold market trade?

Spot gold trades nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week — from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon US Eastern time, with a short daily settlement break. Trading moves between Asian, London and New York sessions, which is why the price updates around the clock on weekdays. See our 24-hour live gold chart.

Can I see the gold price in euros, pounds or other currencies?

Yes. The multi-currency section above shows live gold priced in EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD and CHF alongside the US-dollar chart. You can also type any symbol (e.g. XAUINR) into the main chart.

Can I see a historical or all-time gold chart?

Yes. Set the main chart's timeframe to "All" for the full price history, or open the gold price history chart which shows gold from the 1970s to today, including every major bull and bear market.

How do I work out what my gold is worth?

Use the free tools above: the scrap gold calculator values jewellery by karat and weight, the coin melt calculator covers Eagles, Krugerrands, Sovereigns and more, and the unit converter translates grams, tolas, taels and troy ounces at the live price.
