Spot silver explained

XAG/USD is the price of one troy ounce of silver in US dollars on the global over-the-counter market. Like gold, silver trades nearly 24 hours a day on weekdays across the Asian, London and New York sessions. Use the toolbar to switch timeframes from one minute to all-time.

Silver vs gold

Silver is far more volatile than gold: it has a large industrial demand base (solar, electronics) on top of its monetary role, and a much smaller market. The gold/silver ratio guide explains how traders use the ratio chart above to rotate between the two metals.

Value your silver

The coin melt calculator covers Silver Eagles, Maple Leafs and other bullion coins at the live price, and the unit converter translates grams, kilos and troy ounces. For bars and bags, the holdings calculator tracks your whole stack.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same silver chart as TradingView?

Yes — the charts on this page are official TradingView widgets streaming the same XAG/USD feed as tradingview.com, free and without an account. You can change symbols, intervals and indicators directly in the chart.

Why does silver move more than gold?

The silver market is a fraction of the size of the gold market, and roughly half of silver demand is industrial. That combination makes silver roughly twice as volatile as gold in both directions — bigger rallies in bull markets, deeper drawdowns in corrections.

What is the gold/silver ratio telling me?

The ratio shows how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold buys. High readings have historically marked points where silver was cheap relative to gold, and low readings the reverse. See the full ratio trading guide for how to use it.

Can I see the silver price per gram or kilo?

Yes — the unit converter shows the live silver price per gram, kilo, tola, tael and pennyweight, converted from the spot price per troy ounce.
